LACE Auditory Training
Hear the Sounds. Practice Understanding the Words.
Do you sometimes hear someone speaking but struggle to understand what they're saying? Do conversations become difficult when you're in a restaurant, talking with a group, or trying to follow someone in a noisy environment?
LACE Auditory Training gives you an opportunity to practice listening skills through interactive exercises designed to help you work on understanding speech in everyday situations.
At Back Mountain Hearing Care, we offer LACE as an additional resource for adults who want to strengthen their listening and communication skills.
Does This Sound Familiar?
You may find yourself:
Struggling to follow conversations in restaurants or other noisy places
Having difficulty keeping up when several people are talking
Frequently asking others to repeat themselves
Finding it hard to understand speech even when you're wearing your hearing aids
Feeling mentally tired after a long day of listening
If these experiences sound familiar, auditory training may be worth exploring.
What Is LACE Auditory Training?
LACE stands for Listening and Communication Enhancement. It is an auditory training program that uses interactive exercises to give you practice with listening and understanding speech.
Rather than simply making sounds louder, auditory training focuses on practicing the skills involved in understanding spoken information.
LACE is designed to let you work through exercises at your own pace, with opportunities to practice listening skills that are relevant to everyday communication.
Who May Benefit From LACE?
LACE may be worth considering if you:
Wear hearing aids but still struggle to understand conversations
Have difficulty understanding speech in background noise
Want to practice listening skills outside of your regular appointments
Are interested in an additional tool to support your communication goals
LACE is not a replacement for a hearing evaluation, appropriately fitted hearing aids, or individualized treatment when needed. Our team can help you determine whether it may be a useful option for your needs.
Can LACE Help If I Already Wear Hearing Aids?
Yes, LACE may be an option for people who use hearing aids and continue to experience listening difficulties.
Hearing aids help make speech and other sounds more accessible. Auditory training offers an opportunity to practice understanding speech and responding to challenging listening situations.
The two approaches serve different purposes and may complement one another. Results vary from person to person, and auditory training does not guarantee that every listening situation will become easier.
